Infected bites & stings (ages 1 & over)

Most of us have encountered an insect bite or sting at some point, particularly in warmer weather. While mild itching or discomfort is common, there are times when a bite or sting can trigger an allergic reaction or even lead to an infection.

Through the NHS Pharmacy First Service, our pharmacists can assist individuals aged one and over in England who have infected insect bites. However, this service is not available for pregnant individuals under 16. No appointment is necessary, and we can provide expert advice and treatment, including prescription medications when suitable. This offers a quick and convenient way to manage minor health issues without needing to see a GP.

If you experience an insect bite and notice any of the following symptoms:

  • Skin redness
  • Pain or tenderness
  • Swelling with warmth

It may be a sign of infection, and our pharmacists are here to help. If necessary, they can refer you to another healthcare professional for further evaluation.
