Rabies

Rabies is a serious viral infection found in many parts of the world. The rabies vaccine helps prevent infection before traveling to high-risk regions.

Due to varying availability of rabies vaccine brands, the specific vaccine offered may differ by clinic, which can affect pricing. While we aim to provide a choice between available brands, supplier shortages may limit this. Our pharmacist will inform you of the cost during your consultation.

About Rabies

When to get vaccinated: - Start the vaccination course at least five weeks before travel to ensure you can complete all doses on time.

Course:
- The standard course consists of three doses: - The second dose is given seven days after the first.
- The third dose is administered three weeks after the second.

Accelerated course: - If traveling on short notice, an expedited schedule may be available, where the third dose is given two weeks after the second.

Boosters: - Booster doses may be required depending on your risk of continued exposure to rabies.

How it's given: - Administered as an injection in the upper arm.

Side effects: - Possible mild side effects include fever, rash, nausea, and muscle aches.

Children: - The rabies vaccine is safe for administration from birth.

Additional precautions: - Avoid contact with animals while traveling. If bitten or scratched, immediately wash the wound with soap and water and seek medical help.

Risk if infected: - Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms develop. There is no cure.
