When to get vaccinated: - Begin your vaccination course at least six weeks before travel. You require two doses, with a minimum of four weeks between them. The second dose must be completed at least two weeks before departure. If you also need a Yellow Fever vaccine, it is recommended to leave a four-week gap between the two. This also applies to the chickenpox vaccine and tuberculosis test—these should either be given on the same day as MMR or separated by four weeks.
Course: - Two doses are required, with at least a four-week interval between them.
Accelerated course: - There is no fast-track schedule for this vaccine.
How it's given: - Administered as an injection in the upper arm, just before the shoulder.
Side effects: - Common side effects include fever, rash, and soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site. Some individuals may experience general fatigue, irritability, loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, or malaise (feeling unwell).
Children: - Except in outbreak situations, children should receive their first dose after 12 months of age.
Risks of contracting measles, mumps, or rubella: - These infections spread easily and can have life-threatening consequences. Complications may include brain inflammation (encephalitis), meningitis, and permanent hearing loss.
